Hebrew Bible Text

About

Hebrew Bible Text lets you pull any passage from the Hebrew Bible and format it for use in Word. You can adjust the pointing (full, vowels only, or consonants), verse numbers, ketiv and qere, font, size, and spacing. The text copies directly into Word with right-to-left formatting and superscript verse numbers intact.

The site is designed for students learning Biblical Hebrew, instructors teaching Biblical Hebrew, and for anyone working with the Leningrad Codex (L). It aims to make the Hebrew text easier to navigate and less tedious to format.

You can also link directly to a passage. Your settings are saved between visits.

Text

The site uses the Unicode/XML Leningrad Codex (UXLC 2.5, 27.6), published by Tanach.us in April 2026. The UXLC continues the Westminster Leningrad Codex, a transcription of the Leningrad Codex (St. Petersburg, National Library of Russia, Firkovich B 19 A), corrected against manuscript images. The text is freely available to view and copy.

For best results in Word, install SBL Hebrew, a free font from the Society of Biblical Literature.

The Qumran script option uses the 4Q416 font, courtesy of the Dead Sea Scrolls Project, University of Haifa; design: Dr. Eshbal Ratson and Einat Tamir. The Phoenician-letter and Unicode Samaritan options use Google’s free Noto Sans Phoenician and Noto Sans Samaritan fonts. The Siloam, Lachish, Paleo-Leviticus, Great Isaiah Scroll, Bar Kokhba and Culmus Samaritan options use fonts by Yoram Gnat from the Culmus Project, distributed under the GNU GPL v2 with a font exception (license).

The preview displays the SBL Hebrew font (© Tiro Typeworks and the Society of Biblical Literature), served unmodified under its license. To get it in Word, download it free from the SBL website.

The Listen link opens the chapter’s spoken Hebrew recording on Mechon Mamre (recordings by Talking Bibles International), whose text may differ slightly from UXLC.

Creator

Hebrew Bible Text was created by Andrew Hile, a PhD student in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University.

I built the site to aid beginning students in navigating the Hebrew Bible digitally and to streamline the typesetting of Hebrew passages for use in word processors.

I’ll continue improving it. If you have suggestions or run into problems, I’d be glad to hear from you.
